The latest Steinert Boomerang left the Melbourne factory in September 2011 and six of these super-sized and powerful magnets exist in Australia today. The first three were installed in the mid-to-late 1990s at Port Waratah Coal Service site on Kooragang Island. Two more were installed in 2009 for Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) and the latest 43 tonne addition joined them a few weeks ago. These magnets are the largest of their kind in Australia and all are installed within a radius of 1 km of each other in Newcastle, NSW.
